Robert Rhynalds received the University Kudos Award at the Oct. 28 meeting of the NU Board of Regents.

Rhynalds is the scientific instrument maker with the Chemistry and Physics departments and the astronomy instrument shop. He has been with the university since 2001.

“In every endeavor, Bob has displayed high standards of quality and craftsmanship. He is exceptional in the pride he takes in his work, the eagerness he has to learn new skills and techniques and the genuine interest he exhibits in the experiments his projects relate to,” said his nominator. “His gentle manner is noted as being much appreciated by novice students who are still easily intimidated and unsure of themselves. His guidance in matters of the appropriate constraints on machined parts provides a wonderful education for students. This is particularly valuable when dealing with undergraduate and graduate students who are just beginning to learn how to interface with the machine shop.”
