Regents agenda includes upgrade for Behlen LabApr 15th, 2010 | By tfedderson2 | Category: April 15, 2010, Campus News, Issue
The University of Nebraska Board of Regents will meet April 16 at Varner Hall. Committee meetings begin at 8:30 a.m. and the board meeting begins at 1 p.m. The meetings are open to the public and will be streamed live online at www.nebraska.edu.
Action items involving UNL include approval of:
• A program statement and budget for a renovation of Behlen Laboratory, costing slightly more than $2 million. The renovation would provide improved space for the High-Power Laser Science Collaboratory, a federally funded research endeavor. Space in Behlen is becoming available with the move of physics labs to the new Physical Sciences Building.
• Establish the University of Nebraska/Boys Town Center on Child and Family Well Being at UNL. The center is a collaborative project between UNL and Boys Town. The goal is to create a nationally recognized research center on developing and evaluating mental health, child welfare, behavioral, medication and educational programs for high-need and at-risk children.
• A new doctor of philosophy in music in the School of Music. A doctorate in music is not available at any institution in Nebraska. The degree would meet a demand for highly qualified college instructors to deliver music teacher certification programs.
• Nebraska Innovation Campus development corporation articles of incorporation and bylaws.
