Richards presents two new works

Eric Richards, assistant professor of composition and jazz studies at UNL, will present two new works in October in concert venues in Omaha and Shanghai, China.

The United States Air Force Brass In Blue, a symphonic brass ensemble, will premier Richards’ new three movement work “Three Scenes for American Trombone and Brass Orchestra” for solo trombone, brass and percussion, at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Holland Center for the Performing Arts in Omaha. The piece was commissioned by the USAF Heartland of American Band. The performance will feature Joseph Alessi, principal trombone of the New York Philharmonic.

On Oct. 30, the Shanghai Conservatory of Music Jazz Orchestra will premiere Richards’ “Fantasia On Kang Ding Love Song.” The piece will be featured by UNL’s Jazz Ensemble I on March 24.
