Celebration marks Geske’s birthday

Norman Geske, the artistic force behind the Sheldon Museum of Art for three decades will be honored with a 95th birthday fund-raising event, Oct. 23 at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center.

Geske was creator of the Sheldon Film Theater, now the Ross. He is also an acclaimed art curator and collector.

The “Norman at 95” celebration will include hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. The event, which begins at 5:30 p.m., will include memories of Geske’s favorite actresses, his involvement with the film program at the Ross, and the viewing of a movie by French director Jacque Tati.

Proceeds support the Ross’ visiting filmmakers’ series renamed the Norman Geske Film/Video Showcase. For more information, call 472-9100. Seating is limited.
