Spring Affair celebrates its long history at State Fair Park with the 2009 “Blue Ribbon Event” April 24-25.

It is the largest volunteer-run plant sale in America. The 23nd annual Spring Affair plant sale is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m April 25, in Agricultural Hall at Lincoln’s State Fair Park. Admission to the sale is free.

More than 1,000 plant varieties are available for sale. The plants are provided by Bluebird Nursery Inc. of Clarkson.

Spring Affair presentations include Bluebird’s Harlan Hamernik, with new plant recommendations; garden writer Jan Riggenbach on “Practically Perfect Perennials;” and Dave Titterington on “Landscaping for Wildlife.”

The Spring Affair Preview Party Friday, April 24, features a “down home” menu complete with Nebraska-made pies (reservations required).
