The University Health Center is now offering prescription refills at the click of a mouse.

Earlier this semester, the health center began offering an online prescription refill service to faculty, staff and students. The service is available at http://health.unl.edu.

“Providing online refills is something we have received a number of requests for in recent years,” said Kim Aldridge, chief pharmacist with the University Health Center. “This is a service that truly benefits our customers. It means less waiting time at the counter, and we are able to spend more time answering questions.”

The online refill is for existing prescriptions only. Aldridge said refills can be requested by clicking a red “refill/renew prescription” button on the health center Website.

“Once the button is clicked, a new page opens for the customer to fill in the prescription number and contact information,” said Aldridge. “The request is forwarded to our system and it lets us know if the refill is too soon, if there are no refills left, or if we can go ahead and refill it.”

If the refill cannot be completed, pharmacy staff contacts the customer and/or the doctor who wrote the prescription.

The automatic refill system is also available by calling the pharmacy at 472-7457.

“We’ve tried to make this new system as convenient as possible for everyone,” said Aldridge. “There was a concern that this would mean less personal service. But, it really means less interruptions at the counter and more time for us to work with patients that have drug information questions.”

Aldridge said first-time prescriptions must be brought in to the pharmacy to be filled.

The pharmacy does offer a free delivery service to faculty and staff on City Campus. In addition, Aldridge said the pharmacy offers prescription prices that match the UNL insurance co-pay or are below those charged by other pharmacies.
