UNOPA founder Frolik dies at 101

Rose Frolik, the founder and first president of the University of Nebraska Office Professionals Association, died Dec. 21. She was 101. She worked at the university for 22 years, starting in 1947, and founded UNOPA in 1962.

She worked to establish a professional certification program for office personnel. She was a graduate of Gothenburg High School, and won a typewriter from the Remington Typewriter Co. during her senior year for her outstanding typing proficiency. She earned a BS in Commercial Arts from the University of Nebraska. She was a member Pi Lambda Theta, National Association of Educational Office Professionals.

In 1988, UNOPA established the Rose Frolik Award, which annually recognizes a UNOPA member who best exemplifies Frolik’s qualities and attributes, including leadership, professionalism, high personal character and involvement. Frolik was described as being “an enthusiastic, energetic person who challenged life and felt that how you do your work may be a lot more important than what you do.”

Frolik is survived by her son, Richard Frolik, of Lincoln. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and her husband, Anton, who died during military training at the start of World War II.

Services were Dec. 23 at Sacred Heart Church in Lincoln. Memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart.
