UNL to host print conference

“Printmaking Relevance/Resonance,” the biennial conference of the Mid-America Print Council will be Oct. 6-9 at UNL. The conference theme considers the role of printmaking in the past and in today’s art world.

“This is an exciting and important educational and cultural event for us,” said UNL professor Karen Kunc. “We want to present a broad spectrum of issues, artists and exhibitions that will appeal to the public as well as the specialist.”

Keynote speakers for the conference will include teacher and artist Outi Heiskanen of Finland; Akira Kurosaki of Japan, a professor at Kyoto Seika University; and American Judy Pfaff, a world-renowned artist and sculpture who works with Tandem Press in Madison, Wis. Presentations will be given by noted artists, curators and collectors. Demonstrations in printmaking, papermaking and book arts will also be given. Exhibitions in numerous venues of prints, installation works, book arts and the MAPC Outstanding Printmaker will also be on view.

MAPC members can enter slides for the juried members exhibition, which will be held in conjunction with the conference. The slide deadline is April 15.
