Rock music class offers lesson in culture, history
It probably comes as no surprise that a college class on rock music that fulfills both essential studies and integrative studies requirements would be a popular class at UNL.

NCard may gain financial features
An agreement with Wells Fargo Bank to provide an enhanced “NCard” will make available a broader range of financial services to UNL students, staff and faculty, pending plan approval by the NU Board of Regents at its Feb. 28 meeting.

NU, Weitz to negotiate on North Stadium project
The University of Nebraska has entered the contract negotiation phase with The Weitz Co., an Omaha design and construction firm, in the initial step in the North Stadium expansion project. Four firms were interviewed for the job to complete designs for and build the project, said Rebecca Koller, assistant vice president and director of facilities planning and management.
UNL Women’s Center Celebrates Women’s Week, March 1–6
The UNL Women’s Center is collaborating with many other organizations to celebrate Women’s Week from March 1-6. Activities are scheduled throughout the week that focus on this year’s theme, “Everyday Activism.” The theme was chosen to highlight the importance of part-time activism and the impact that small daily acts can have.
Year-end health plan report shows increase in costs
University of Nebraska Central Administration provided this information about the expenses of the universitywide health plan on Feb. 16.
Panel to discuss ‘Passion of the Christ’ March 1
The Classics and Religious Studies department will conduct a panel discussion March 1 titled “Mel Gibson’s ‘The Passion of the Christ’: Context and Reflection.” The panel begins at 3:30 p.m. and will be in the Bessey Hall Auditorium (room 117).

Traveling ceramics gallery to visit Lincoln March 9
Artstream, a traveling ceramics gallery based in Carbondale, Colo., is coming to Lincoln on March 9. Artstream will be open from noon to 5 p.m. and will be parked at Hillis & Co. in the Haymarket, 230 N. 7th St. Artstream’s visit is sponsored by the UNL Clay Club, and items will be on display and for sale.

Musical tells the stories of Fame
Fame - The Musical, based on the award-winning movie and TV series, will open at the Lied Center for Performing Arts on March 5 for four performances. The show has played more than 5,000 performances from 300 productions in more than 16 countries. Performances include an extended run in London’s West End and a three-year tour in North America.

Speech to discuss roles of textiles
Beverly Gordon will deliver a lecture, “The Fiber of Our Lives: Why Textiles Matter,” at 9 a.m. March 5 in the Home Economics auditorium. Her slide lecture examines the roles and meanings that textiles play in human life around the world. Her talk is free and open to the public. Support for her lecture and fellowship is provided by Othmer enhancement funds.
Sleeping Beauty on stage
The Utah-based Ballet West will perform The Sleeping Beauty at 7:30 p.m. March 3 in the Lied Center for Performing Arts.
First Friday event March 5
The Sheldon First Friday Celebration from 5-7 p.m. March 5 at the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery will feature Gail Kendall of the UNL Department of Art and Art History. She will discuss the “Ceramics from the Permanent Collection” now on exhibition. The discussion is followed by tours of the UNL ceramics studios. Kendall is nationally recognized for her contributions in the medium of ceramics.
Wilde play canceled
The Theatrix production of Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde scheduled for March 4, 5 and 6 has been canceled.
Spring Dance Gala Feb. 28
The UNL School of Music Dance Division will present the Spring Dance Gala 2004, Broadway Lights, Fosse Nights, at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 28 and March 1 and at 3 p.m. Feb. 29 in the Kimball Recital Hall.
Annual undergraduate exhibition opens Monday
The Department of Art and Art History’s annual Studio Art Undergraduate Competitive Exhibition will run March 1-12 in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall. An opening reception will be from 5-7 p.m. March 1.

Author Twyla Hansen will read from her latest book, Potato Soup, at 7:30 p.m. March 3 in the Dudley Bailey Library, Room 229, Andrews Hall.
Group to hold print sale March 4-6
The Lincoln Print Group will hold a print sale March 4-6 in the conference room of Richards Hall. Hours for the sale are 4-7 p.m. March 4, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 5 and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 6.
