Spring Dance Gala Feb. 28

The UNL School of Music Dance Division will present the Spring Dance Gala 2004, Broadway Lights, Fosse Nights, at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 28 and March 1 and at 3 p.m. Feb. 29 in the Kimball Recital Hall.

The Spring Dance Gala will feature original choreography by Bob Fosse with “Steam Heat” from Pajama Game, “Frug” from Sweet Charity and “Dancin’ Man” from Dancin’. These works and performances are presented as part of The National College Choreography Initiative, a Leadership Initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts with additional support by the Dana Foundation, administered by Dance/USA with additional support from the Cooper Foundation and the Nebraska Arts Council. With the support of these grants, the Dance Division brought five professional Broadway and musical theatre guest artists to stage and create original choreography. Bill Hastings, a career Broadway dancer who worked directly with Bob Fosse in the Broadway revival of Sweet Charity and a featured dancer in the original staging of Fosse in Toronto, staged all of the Fosse works.

Faculty artists Darryl White, Donna Harler-Smith and Charles Smith, and Alisa Belflower are featured in the gala program, and UNL music majors will sing a variety of musical selections.

Tickets are $12 general, $10 faculty/staff, and $7 student/senior and will be available at the door.
