Second construction company enters negotiations on North Stadium project

The University of Nebraska has entered the contract negotiation phase with Sampson Construction Co. of Lincoln, the second company to enter into the process of addressing the North Stadium expansion project.

The university had entered into negotiations with The Weitz Co. of Omaha last month. However no agreement was reached and negotiations between the two entities were terminated when it was determined that The Weitz Co. would be unable to complete the project within the allotted budget.

The total project is slated for completion by August 2006. The cost of both design and construction is still expected to come in under a budgeted amount of $40.8 million, according to Rebecca Koller, assistant vice president and director of facilities planning and management at the University of Nebraska.

Final designs for the project will be made available in the next few months, after the negotiation phase.
