Prairie Burn on East Campus

Fire burns quickly through the miniature prairie on East Campus as Ben Andrews, a senior animal science major, puts out a smaller fire along the perimeter. The controlled burn is conducted annually as part of the range ecosystems class taught by agronomy and horticulture professor James Stubbendieck. Over the last month, the class has learned about the behavior of fire and its influence on prairies. IANR photo by Brett Hampton.
