Artists begin program

Several artists with ties to UNL have joined or will soon join the artists-in-residence program at University Place Art Center. The program supports artists with space and materials while the artists teach and create a body of work.

• Ken Stanley joined artist-in-residence program in August. Stanley is a master of fine arts candidate in painting at UNL. He is a recipient of an "Art Matters" Fellowship and a Kimmel Fellowship, and his past work experience includes gallery coordinator and instructor at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art, instructor at the Joslyn Art Museum and at the Western Heritage Museum, all in Omaha.

• In late September, John Walters will begin his residency. Walters earned his bachelor of fine arts in ceramic sculpture from the UNL and was recipient of the Vreeland Award, both in 2003.

• Yvonne Meyer earned her master of fine arts degree in photography from UNL in 1999, where she also was a senior lecturer. Her art has been exhibited regionally, including a solo show of 800 prints.

• Deb Oden earned her master of fine arts degree in printmaking from UNL in 2003. Oden is a two-time winner of the Kimmel Fellowship, among other awards.

University Place Art Center is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays at 2601 N. 48th St.
