Riverdance storms back to the Lied Center stage

Few shows are as popular as international dance phenomenon Riverdance.This thunderous celebration of joyful music, song and dance that has thrilled over 18 million people around the world returns to the Lied Center for eight performances Feb. 23-27.

Composed by Bill Whelan, produced by Moya Doherty, and directed by John McColgan, Riverdance features an international company of performers.

Riverdance focuses on the evolution of Irish dance, as well as its similarities with, and influences on, other cultures. Whelan won the 1997 Grammy Award for "Best Musical Show Album" for his original music and lyrics for Riverdance.

Riverdance had its world premiere at the Point Theatre, Dublin, in Feb. 1995, where it opened to unanimous critical acclaim. The show is so popular that two companies currently are touring world-wide.

A pre-performance talk will occur in the Lied's Steinhart Room 30 minutes prior to curtain.

Tickets range from $39 to $55 and are available at the Lied Center ticket office, or by calling (402) 472-4747 or (800) 432-3231. For groups call (402) 472-4747. Regular ticket office hours are 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays. For matinee weekend performances, the Lied ticket office will be open at 11 a.m. through intermission. The performance schedule for Riverdance is: Feb. 23-7:30 p.m.; Feb. 24-2 and 7:30 p.m.; Feb. 25-7:30 p.m.; Feb. 26-2 and 7:30 p.m.; and Feb. 27-1 and 5 p.m.
