Hillestad, Weiss exhibiting at Uni Place Gallery

Robert Hillestad, professor emeritus, is one of six artists exhibiting workin a show titled High Fiber at the University Place Art Gallery in March.

Fiber art encompasses a broad range of applications, including weaving, spinning, quilting, knitting and much more.

Hillestad, Lincoln, design educator, studio artist, and professor emeritus in the Department of Textiles, Clothing and Design, has participated in more than 100 juried and invitational shows in the United States and abroad and has been the recipient of numerous awards. His wearable art and sculptural wall pieces are included in many corporate, private and museum collections.

Wendy Weiss and Jay Kreimer will recreate their collaborative textile and sound environment installation, Traveler'sField, for the first time in Lincoln in the Folsom Gallery. Weiss is professor of Textiles, Clothing and Design at UNL, is director of the Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery. Kriemer is a sound designer, composer, and adjunct professor at Doane College-Lincoln where he teaches writing, creative problem solving and leadership. Weiss and Kreimer have collaborated on installations regionally and nationally.

The opening reception for both shows is 5:30-7:30 p.m. March 4. It is free and open to the public.

University Place Art Center, 2601 N. 48th St., is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is free of charge.
