Learning communities to expand this fall

Learning communities will increase in numbers for the Fall 2005 term.

Deb Mullen, coordinator of academic learning communities, said UNL currently offers students 14 choices in the program. That number will grow by four with the addition of three new learning communities and the revival of another.

The new communities are criminal justice, environmental studies and modern languages. The law and government learning community - which was not offered this year - will rejoin the fold.

Current learning communities include: achievement, commitment and excellence; biology; business; children, families and schools; engineering; fashion and textiles; general studies; joint ROTC; mass media perspective; music; nursing; nutrition, exercise and health promotion; freshmen scholars; and the Jones scholars.

Mullen also said the freshmen scholars will change its name to the E.N. Thompson international scholars in the fall.
