Arlo Guthrie was born in Coney Island, N.Y., in 1947, the son of legendary folk singer Woody Guthrie and Marjorie Mazia Guthrie, a professional dancer with the Martha Graham Company. Arlo's own music career exploded in 1967 with the release of his debut album, Alice's Restaurant, which became an international hit and helped inspire the generation's commitment to social consciousness and activism.

The song Alice's Restaurant Massacre is based on actual events that took place in Stockbridge, Mass., and was made into a motion picture starring Arlo. This 40th anniversary tour is the chance to realize his promise to perform this song again.

A pre-performance talk will be held in the Lied's Steinhart Room 30 minutes prior to curtain. Seating is limited in the Steinhart, and the pre-talk will begin at 7 p.m. or when the Steinhart room is full. L. Kent Wolgamott, entertainment and arts reporter for the Lincoln Journal Star, will be the speaker.

Call the Lied Center at 472-4747 for ticket availability.
