Men's Basketball

The Cornhusker men's basketball team (above) hosts a Big Six Conference game in the Coliseum in an image from 1930. The 1930 squad was coached by Charley Black and finished with a record of 9 wins and 9 losses.

Below, former University of Nebraska-Lincoln head coach Moe Iba (1981-1986) rallies the Huskers during a timeout.

Iba was the first men's basketball coach to lead the Huskers to the NCAA tournament (in the 1985-1986 season). He was named the Big 8 coach of the year twice and finished his UNL career with a record of 106 wins and 71 losses.

Iba's work as an assistant coach with the 1966 national championship team from Texas Western is featured in the movie, "Glory Road."

Don Haskin was head coach of that team, which was the first squad to start five black players in a national championship game.

Future file - This City Campus building is hailed as one of the oldest structures at UNL and is named after an early chancellor who used a 3,400 pound electromagnet in his research. "From the Archives" will feature this building in the Feb. 16 edition of the Scarlet.

From the Archives is a regular Scarlet feature depicting images from the university's past. This week's image was provided by the University Libraries and Publications and Photography. To suggest or contribute a feature, call 472-8515.
