'Learned Ladies' opens March 2

University Theatre, the academic year production program in the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, continues its 105th season with the comedy, "The Learned Ladies."

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. March 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10 and 11 in the Johnny Carson Theater at the Lied Center for Performing Arts.

Written by Moliere and translated to English by Richard Wilbur, "The Learned Ladies" follows the courtship of Henriette (played by Flynt Burton). Family members and the jealousy of Vadius, a scholar, complicate Henriette's pursuit by three suitors.

Throughout the tale, Moliere blasts the hypocrisy of the court of Louis XIV and its ridicule of women who embrace "intellectual freedom."

The production is designed by graduate students Stori Lauritzen (scenery), Helen Nosova (costumes), and Mike Legate (sound). Assistant professor Robert. Mond designs lighting. Stage manager is Joseph Lupo. The production is guest directed by Jason Chimonides, a director, actor, playwright and educator based in New York City.

Tickets are $16 regular admission, $14 for faculty/staff and senior citizens and $10 for student/youth.

Tickets are available at the Lied Center ticket office or by calling 472-4747.
