PRAIRIE PLAYERS - Cast members (from left) Garrison Keillor, Lily Tomlin, Meryl Streep and Lindsey Lohan perform in "A Prairie Home Companion" the movie. Inspired by the radio series of the same name, "A Prairie Home Companion" premieres 7 p.m. June 9 at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center.

Director Robert Altman and writer Garrison Keillor join forces with an all-star cast, including Meryl Streep, Lily Tomlin, Tommy Lee Jones, Kevin Kline, Lindsey Lohan and Keillor himself, to create a comic backstage fable. The film "A Prairie Home Companion" tells the story of the last performance of a fictitious radio variety show that has managed to survive in the age of television. The film uses the musicians, crew and stage setting of the actual radio show, heard on public radio stations coast to coast for the past quarter-century (and which, in real life, continues to broadcast). The result is a humorous tale, extraordinary acting and a good time for all.

The movie is inspired by the radio series, "A Prairie Home Companion," which plays on NET Radio (91.1 FM in Lincoln) from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sundays.

Tickets to the premiere are $20 and include admission and concessions. Seating is limited and reservations can be made by calling 800-634-6788.

The film continues at the Ross through July 6.
