'Great Plains Great Books' to feature Johnsgard title

The NET Radio program "Great Plains Great Books" will feature Paul Johnsgard's book "The Platte: Channels in Time" during a live broadcast at 9 a.m. Aug. 24.

The weekly radio essay will focus on the small environments that Johnsgard writes about, with the sounds of wildlife and water, music and description evoking the splendor of the Platte River.

The broadcast will also air at 12:30 p.m. Aug. 25 on NET Radio, and will be available online at www.netnebraska.org/greatbooks.

"Great Plains Great Books" is a series of 10 radio essays produced by NET Radio in partnership with the Plains Humanities Alliance (Center for Great Plains Studies at UNL). The essays were inspired by books about the region as presented in an annotated and edited list of essential Plains books in the humanities developed by the Plains Humanities Alliance. The PHA list includes books from Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and South Dakota.

The Johnsgard broadcast is the third in the 10-part series.
