Award-winning bead exhibit at Hillestad through Sept. 28

The Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery is hosting an exhibit of award-winning beaded artworks through Sept. 28.

"Luna at Water's Edge," by Kimberlin Blackburn of Kapaa, Hawaii.

The beaded works on display are selections from the Bead International 2006 juried exhibition held annually at the Dairy Barn Southeastern Ohio Cultural Arts Center in Athens, Ohio. Selections from the 85 works juried for display in Athens are circulating as a touring exhibit from October 2006 through December 2008.

The Bead International 2006 is the fifth biennial, international juried exhibition of contemporary artwork in which beads are a primary element. The entry form defines beads as any pierced object, and the work in the show includes everything from jewelry, small sculptures, wall hangings, and two-dimensional artwork.

"PMS Alert Bracelet," by Beth Blankenship of Anchorage, Alaska.

The Hillestad Gallery is on the second floor of the Home Economics Building. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission is free.
