Nov. 1 tree planting to recall 1997 snow storm

Landscape Services will plant a tree to commemorate the 10th anniversary of a 1997 snow storm that hit Lincoln on Oct. 25-26, 1997.

The ceremony will be at 1 p.m. Nov. 1 in the Maxwell Arboretum on East Campus.

The storm - which dropped 13.2 inches of heavy, wet snow on Lincoln - destroyed or damaged approximately 1,100 trees on City and East campuses. UNL was closed for two days while the area started to recover from the storm, which knocked out power for up to eight days in parts of Lincoln.

For more information on the tree planting, contact Landscape Services at sbudler1@unl.edu or 472-2679.
