Perlman, Kostelnik issue call for Combined Campaign giving

Verbatem - Harvey Perlman, chancellor, and Marjorie Kostelnik, dean of Education and Human Sciences, issued this Nov. 1 e-mail about the Combined Campaign.

It is true that many hands make light work. Time and again, UNL faculty and staff have demonstrated that, working together, we can and do make our community a remarkably better place. Our university community has a lot to be proud of in our record of giving, whether it is our time, our talent or our donations of money to support causes that benefit the quality of life in our community.

This past year, UNL collected awards for being the top public sector donor to the Combined Campaign, and earned recognition for having the largest number of Leadership Givers and also the largest number of Women in Philanthropy donors of any contributing group. Community Health Charities recognized UNL with a "Partners in Health" award for outstanding leadership in the support of health in Nebraska.

Probably the biggest reward, though, isn't engraved on a plaque in the Chancellor's office, but rather, comes in knowing what an enormous difference our collective caring makes for those who just do not have the resources they need for some of life's basics of food, shelter, health care, safety and education.

Once again, we are called upon to put into action our university tradition of reaching out to help others in need. As we begin the campaign for 2008, we ask you to consider a generous gift to the organizations supported by the Combined Campaign: United Way of Lincoln and Lancaster County, Community Health Charities of Nebraska and the Community Services Fund.

Please take a moment to visit the UNL Combined Campaign Web site and view the three federations and their participating agencies at http://ucommdev.unl.edu/combinedcampaign.

Your helping hand, added to those of your colleagues, puts the Power of Red to work in support of those who need it most. Individually, you can make a real difference for others. Together, we can make a powerful statement as a positive force to make many lives and our community dramatically better.
