Chang-Barnes to play with Rastrelli Cello Quartet

Since its founding in 2002, the Rastrelli Cello Quartet has been on a mission to prove that it's possible to play any kind of music on the cello - from baroque to rock. Pianist Ann Chang-Barnes, senior lecturer of piano at the UNL School of Music, will perform with the quartet. Together they will play at the Lied Center for Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 26.

Members of the Rastrelli Cello Quartet are Kira Kraftzoff, Kirill Timofeev, Misha Degtjareff, and Sergio Drabkine. Three of the four were born and trained in St. Petersburg, Russia.

The quartet's artists hold an impressive collection of international competition prizes among them, and two are also members of the Wuertemburg Chamber Orchestra.

Chang-Barnes is also coordinator of chamber music in the School of Music. Chang-Barnes joined the music faculty in 1995, along with her husband, pianist Paul Barnes, who serves as co-chair of piano. She teaches both graduate and undergraduate piano students, and directs chamber music activities.

A pre-performance talk will be offered at 7 p.m. in the Lied Center's Steinhart Room. Seating is limited.

Tickets for the performance are $36 general admission, $18 for UNL students and youths age 18 and younger.
