Grand opening activities include the opening of major exhibitions of masterpiece quilts from around the world, antique and contemporary, and an exhibition of the quilts of featured artist Nancy Crow. A new virtual gallery provides Web-based digital access to the center's quilt collection for interactive experiences.

The new glass and brick building at 1523 N. 33rd St., designed by the internationally renowned Robert A.M. Stern Architects of New York, houses more than 2,300 quilts - making it the world's largest collection - and an international study center dedicated to the research, preservation and display of important quilts from cultures around the world.

The opening event March 30 kicks off Nebraska's official 2008 Year of the Quilt. A full calendar of quilt exhibitions, family activities, lectures, classes and celebrations will be held across the state throughout 2008, including April exhibitions in Lincoln, is at www.quiltstudy.org. Additional information is available at www.quiltstudy.org/about_us/news/newsroom.html.

Beginning April 1, the International Quilt Study Center and Museum will be open 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sundays; closed Mondays and major holidays.
