Kirsch, a Nebraska artist, was greatly influenced by the landscape of the Great Plains. Kirsch was a faculty member at the University of Nebraska from 1924 through 1950, serving as director of the university art galleries beginning in 1936.

"For Lincoln residents, understanding the work of Dwight Kirsch is essential for understanding the origins of the local art community," said Amanda Mobley, guest curator.

Kirsch was a noted art educator but an equally skilled artist, known for his experimental techniques that capture a single moment in the prairie sky.

"It is a privilege to exhibit and preserve the work of an artist who greatly contributed to the heritage of our university galleries," said Amber Mohr, curator.
