Faculty art to go on display

Artwork by 18 UNL faculty artists will be exhibited Sept. 10-29 at University Place Art Center, 2601 N. 48th St. An opening reception will be at the art center from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Sept. 10.

The University Faculty Art Exhibit in the Firehouse Gallery includes a variety of work in photography, ceramics, sculpture, fiber arts, graphic arts, painting, drawing and printmaking. The faculty artists are from the Department of Art and Art History in the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts and from the Department of Textiles, Clothing and Design in the College of Education and Human Sciences.

"This is the first time University Place Art Center has held a group faculty show," said Julie Diegel, executive director of the center. "This show represents our growing relationship with UNL. It also fits in well with the Art Center's education mission."

Faculty and graduate students from UNL often serve as artists-in-residence at the Art Center. Through the program, artists use studio space at the center in exchange for teaching classes.

Included in the faculty show: Ron Bartels, graphics; Santiago Cal, sculpture; Judith Cherry, painting; Eddie Dominguez, ceramics; Ed Forde, photography/painting; Dana Fritz, photography; Shelley Fuller, photography; Keith Jacobshagen, painting/drawing; Michael James, textiles; Gail Kendall, ceramics; Karen Kunc, printmaking; Lana Miller, painting/drawing; Mo Neal, sculpture; Pete Pinnell, ceramics; Vince Quevedo, textiles; Bill Shaffer, painting/drawing; Wendy Weiss, fibers; and Sandra Williams, painting/drawing.
