Deadlines set for CA award nominations

University of Nebraska's Central Administration has announced deadlines for nominations for its three awards for NU faculty.

• The Outstanding Research and Creative Activity award honors members of the University of Nebraska faculty who have conducted outstanding research or creative activity of national or international significance. A call for nominations was sent to all full-time faculty members on Aug. 23. Peer reviewer letters are due to the NU Office of the Provost on Nov. 8. Nominations are due to the Provost on Nov. 10. Nomination packets will be sent to the Awards Selection Committee in December, and the winners will be selected in January 2005.

• The Outstanding Teaching and Instructional Creativity Awards recognizes NU faculty members who have developed meritorious and sustained records of excellence in teaching and creativity related to teaching. A call for nominations was sent to all full-time faculty members on Aug. 23. Nominations are due Oct. 25 to Chancellor Harvey Perlman's office. The chancellor will send nominations to the NU Office of the Provost by Nov. 24. Nomination packets will be sent to the Awards Selection Committee in December, and the winners will be selected in January 2005.

• The Universitywide Departmental Teaching Award honors a department or unit within the university system that has outstanding spirit in its dedication to the education of students at the undergraduate, graduate or professional levels. A call for nominations was sent to all full-time faculty members on Aug. 23. Nominations are due Oct. 25 to Chancellor Perlman's office. The chancellor will send nominations to the NU Office of the Provost by Nov. 24. Nomination packets will be sent to the Awards Selection Committee in December, and the winner will be selected in January 2005.

The ORCA and OTICA winners each receive a $3,500 grant. The departmental award carries with it a $25,000 grant to the department.

NU also offers two other universitywide awards:

• The Peter Kiewit Student Entrepreneurial Award recognizes NU students who have directed their energies, ideas and talents toward community and business improvements with information technology. This award, accompanied by a cash prize of $2,500, is given to an NU student or to a team of students enrolled in a degree program during the entrepreneurial activities. Nominations for this award must be submitted to NU Central Administration by Oct. 25. Applications must be submitted by Nov. 24.

• The Walter Scott Entrepreneurial Business award encourages existing businesses with a presence in Nebraska to create partnerships and links with NU in technology. The winner will receive $10,000 to be used for the promotion and/or creation of multiple student work experiences in the fields of information science, technology and engineering. Nominations must be submitted by Oct. 25 to NU Central Administration. Applications must be submitted by Nov. 24.
