Milliken installation festivities include UNL component

"A Love of Place" is the theme of the installation of the sixth president of the University of Nebraska. James B. Milliken will be formally installed Jan. 27 in Omaha; a series of events over two days and four cities will share the installation celebration with the people of Nebraska. Events will feature a discussion panel, receptions, the arts, traditional academic ceremony and fellowship.

Events at UNL include a discussion panel Jan. 27 featuring former UNL chancellor Graham Spanier, now president at Penn State University; University of North Carolina President Molly Corbett Broad; UNL professor of English Linda Pratt; and C. Peter Magrath, president of the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges. The discussion panel is 3:30-5 p.m. Jan. 27 at Kimball Hall, followed by a reception at Van Brunt Visitors Center. UNL faculty and staff are invited to the academic discussion panel and public reception in Lincoln.

The actual installation ceremony at 10 a.m. at UNO will be Web-streamed with availability on campus television Channel 4 and rebroadcast on NETV2 at 9 p.m. Check the CA Web site, www.nebraska.edu or local listings for up-to-date coverage information.

To help in planning, attendees are asked to RSVP at www.nebraska.edu with numbers attending the various events.

The installation events are sponsored by the University of Nebraska Board of Regents.

Wednesday, Jan. 26 -

• Luncheon, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Panhandle Research and Extension Center, 4502 Ave. I, Scottsbluff.

• Public reception, 4-6 p.m., Museum of Nebraska Art, 2401 Central Ave., Kearney.

Thursday, Jan. 27 -

• Installation ceremony, 10 a.m., Strauss Performing Arts Center, UNO, 6001 Dodge St., followed by reception, ballroom, Milo Bail Student Center

• Discussion panel, "Public Higher Education," 3:30-5 p.m., UNL, Kimball Hall, followed by public reception at Van Brunt Visitors Center.
