Juried student exhibition at Hillestad Gallery
The Biennial Juried Student Exhibition runs in the Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery until Jan. 28.
Julie Diegle, director of the University Place Art Center, Julia Noyes, director of the Noyes Gallery, and Dan Siedell, curator of the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery, juried the show of 24 works by 18 undergraduate and graduate students. Apparel design work dominates the exhibition.
Siedell comments, "Some pieces are the epitome of simplicity, using broad swaths of fabric with stark contrasts in texture and color; others are much more nuanced and complex, integrating intricate stitching and embroidery with subtle colors and textures."
Jurors selected work accepted into the show that was completed in a wide range of courses, from the 200 to the 800 level. Several pieces were completed as part of the Undergraduate Creative Activities and Research Experiences (UCARE) program.
The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday and by appointment. Visitor parking permits may be obtained in the departmental and college offices. The gallery is located on the second floor of the Home Economics Building on East Campus.
