Competition seeks sunflower images
An annual botanical print competition is looking for a few good sunflowers.
The Nebraska Statewide Arboretum competition is focused on native sunflowers.
The winning illustration will be used to create the arboretum's 2006 botanical print.
The Nebraska Arts Council is helping fund this competition, which is part of an ethnobotanical curriculum project, "Nebraska Roots: Botany, Art and Culture," being developed in consultation with science and art educators, artists and representatives of Nebraska native tribes.
The competition's deadline is Nov. 1. Only digital images or slides of paintings, drawings or prints will be accepted. Artists may submit more than one illustration. There will be a $150 prize for the winning entry, which will be announced next spring when copies of the prints will be made available.
For entry forms, call 472-7923, email klarsen1@unl.edu, or write to NSA, P.O. Box 830715, UNL, Lincoln, NE 68585-0715. Additional contest information - including previous botanical prints - are available online at http://arboretum.unl.edu.
