Perloff to give Knoll lecture
Marjorie Perloff, a literary critic of modern poetry and president elect of the Modern Language Association of America, will deliver the Robert E. Knoll Lecture, "The Rise, Fall and Mutation of Avant-garde Movements: The Case of Language Poetry" at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 6 in Andrews Hall's Dudley Bailey Library (room 228).
Also on Oct. 6, Perloff will meet with UNL faculty and students for an open discussion of professional issues, including but not limited to topics such as careers teaching English in higher education, the changing role of the humanities in research universities, divisiveness in the profession and the opportunities and limits on the role of the Modern Language Association. Nick Spencer will moderate the discussion, 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Dudley Bailey Library.
The Robert E. Knoll Lecture is sponsored by the UNL Department of English in honor of Robert E. Knoll, the Paula and D.B. Varner Professor of English emeritus.
