Moscow State Symphony performs Tchaikovsky, Dvorák Nov. 11 at Lied
The famed Moscow State Symphony Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Lied Center for Performing Arts.
The program will include Tchaikovsky's Marche slave, Op. 31 and Concerto for Violin in D major, Op. 35 and Dvorák's Symphony No. 9, Op. 95, in E minor ("From the New World"). Violin soloist Stefan Jackiw will join the orchestra for the Tchaikovsky concerto.
Founded in 1943 by Nikolai Anosov, the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra has been recognized as one of the greatest orchestras in the world. In addition to regular performances at the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory and at various locations throughout Russia, the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra plays between 20 to 50 international concerts each year. The orchestra made its U.S. debut in 2001.
Jackiw is recognized as one of the most significant artists of his generation. At 20, he has amassed an impressive performing career that includes the Minnesota Orchestra; the Naples Philharmonic; the Indianapolis, Oregon, Pittsburgh, and Rochester Symphonies; the Orchestra of St. Luke's at Caramoor; the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra; and the Boston Pops.
Clark Potter, a viola professor with the School of Music, offers a pre-performance talk at 7 p.m. in the Lied Center's Steinhart Room. Seating is limited.
Tickets for the performance are $50, $45 and $40. UNL students with a valid NCard and youth 18 and younger may purchase tickets for half price. For more information, go online to www.liedcenter.org or call 472-4747.
