Temple Building

Opened in 1907, the Temple Building was the first University of Nebraska building constructed beyond the original land allotted to the university.

Funded by a controversial donation of $66,666 by John D. Rockefeller, the Temple Building was originally constructed as a center for student organizations and religious activities. The Temple was the first building constructed with private funds.

The building originally housed the YWCA and YMCA, as well as areas for classrooms and student organizations. It has also been used as an experimental high school that helped students meet admissions requirements and a center for educational television programs.

Today, the Temple Building is reserved for performances and workshops for the College of Fine and Performing Arts.
