Ross hosts opening of 'Half Nelson' Dec. 8
"Half Nelson," the story of a friendship forged between a quiet teen and a drug-addicted teacher, opens Dec. 8 at the Ross Media Arts Center.
Written and directed by Ryan Fleck, co-written by Anna Boden, "Half Nelson" is about high school teacher Dan (Ryan Gosling) and quiet teenager Drey (Shareeka Epps), two lonely souls searching for meaning to their chaotic lives.
Dan teaches Dray in a dilapidated school in Brooklyn, N.Y. Their relationship is unremarkable until Drey discovers Dan collapsed and clutching a crack pipe in a high school gym restroom. From this pivotal moment, Fleck builds a friendship between these two unlikely allies.
Also opening at the Ross Dec. 8 is "Jesus Camp." The documentary is a first-ever look into a training ground that recruits born-again Christian children to be active in America's political future.
"Half Nelson" (rated R) and "Jesus Camp" (rated PG-13) are showing at the Ross through Dec. 21.
