Mechanical Engineering - Richards Hall

Students work in the machine tool laboratory in the Mechanical Engineering building (now Richards Hall) in this undated photo from the Nebraska State Historical Society.

The Mechanical Engineering building opened to classes for the 1909-1910 academic year. The first floor was occupied by the machine shop, power laboratory and a tool room. The second floor included a wood working laboratory, fuel-testing lab, drawing room, two lecture halls and the office of the dean.

The building was renamed Richards Hall in honor of Charles Russ Richards, who served as dean of engineering when the hall was built.

The Department of Art and Art History moved into Richards Hall in the early 1970s. The building was remodeled in the late 1990s.
