Barnes will perform his lecture recital "Liszt and the Cross: Music as Sacrament in the B Minor Sonata" at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, the Beijing Central Conservatory, Nankai University and Zhejiang University. He will also conduct Liszt's view of the sacramental nature of music with Lao Tsu's teaching on the power of the Tao as a force for good. Just as Liszt understood music as a divine means to transcend the world, so Lao Tsu understood the Tao as a means to return to the "pristine simplicity."

From China, Barnes will travel to Seoul, South Korea, for two performances and to teach at Seoul National University. He will perform "Liszt and the Cross" and a lecture recital featuring the complete piano music of American composer Samuel Barber.
