'Darfur Now' plays the Ross

The documentary "Darfur Now" is playing through Jan. 17 at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center.

Written and directed by Ted Braun, the film examines the Darfur, Sudan, conflict through first hand experiences of six individuals - including actor Don Cheadle. Each of those featured has worked to show others around the world the tragedy in Sudan and show how one person can make a difference. Others featured include Hejewa Adam, who has joined a rebel group, and Ahmed Mohammed Akbar, who was forced to flee his village and is a leader at a refugee camp.

Also showing through Jan. 17 at the Ross is John Turturro's "Romance and Cigarettes."

"Romance and Cigarettes" follows Nick Murder (James Gandolfini), a blue-collar worker who falls for a gorgeous redhead Tula (Kate Winslet). However, when Murder's wife Kitty (Susan Sarandon) finds out, the family begins to short-circuit.
