National Libraries Week events begin April 14

 UNIVERSITY COMMUNICATIONS

The University Libraries is celebrating National Library Week (April 14-18) by collaborating with other departments to sponsor a variety of events - including a poetry slam and a lecture on climate change. All events are free and open to the public.

Backyard Farmer Panel
7 p.m., April 15
C.Y. Thompson Library

Panelists from NET Television's "Backyard Farmer" program will give tips and answer questions about plants, bugs, lawns and gardening. Panelists include: Roch Gaussoin, professor of agronomy and horticulture; Loren Giesler, associate professor of plant pathology; Fred Baxendale, professor of entomology; Jeff Culbertson, manager of landscape services; Sarah Browning, associate extension educator; and Kim Todd, host of "Backyard Farmer."

Parking is free in the lots east of the Biochemistry Building and C.Y. Thompson Library.



"Many Voices, Celebrate Diversity In Literature"

A coffee house/poetry event sponsored by the UNL Libraries, Residence Hall Association and OASIS. Light refreshments will be served.



"Evidence of Climate Change"

Lecture by David Easterling, chief of scientific services at the National Climatic Data Center.



"Climate Change and the Great Plains"
2 p.m., April 17
Nebraska Union

A panel discussion led by David Easterling. Panelists include: Sheri Fritz, professor of geosciences and biological sciences; Michael Hayes, director of the National Drought Mitigation Center; and Kenneth Hubbard, director of the High Plains Regional Cimate Center. The climate lecture and panel discussion are sponsored by the UNL Libraries, Department of Geosciences, the High Plains Regional Climate Center, the National Drought Mitigation Center, and the Convocations Committee.
