May 8 'Free at 6' performance features Athenian Dancers
Belly dancing has existed as an art form for thousands of years and through that span many different styles have evolved. Local dance troupe The Athenian Dancers will perform many of these styles in a free performance at the Lied Center for Performing Arts at 6 p.m. May 8. This event is part of the Lied's Free at 6 series.
The Athenian Dancers are a performing group from the Athena Studio of World Dance in Lincoln. Formed in 2003 under the direction of Ashiya (Ann Bauers) and Naajidah (Nancy Taylor) they have performed in various venues throughout the Midwest. Some of their specialties include veil, sword, cane, candle, Wings of Isis, pharonic, gypsy, folkloric and Greek cabaret.
The Free at 6 series was created to recognize the rich range of local artistic talent, while also opening the Lied Center to a wider audience. Free at 6 performances are 45 minutes.
The performance is free and open to the public.
