Film festival celebrates Micheaux

The Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center will celebrate the works of filmmaker and author Oscar Micheaux Feb. 6 and 7 with screenings of two of his films, Body and Soul and Within Our Gates, and a documentary, Midnight Ramble.

Micheaux made films in the early part of the 20th century that emphasized black independence. The films will be presented by Pearl Bowser, a co-director of Midnight Ramble, and Thulani Davis, a scholar and writer.

Within Our Gates will play at 7 p.m. Feb. 6, while Midnight Ramble will play at 3 p.m. Feb. 7. Body and Soul will play at 7 p.m. Feb. 7 and will be followed by a discussion with Bowser and Davis.
