Opera seminar tonight

“Anatomy of An Opera: An Insider’s View of the Production of The Elixir of Love,” will begin at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 5 in room 119 of the Westbrook Music Building. It is presented by UNL Opera with the Lincoln City Libraries and Friends of Opera.

William Shomos, director of UNL Opera, will moderate the seminar, which allows audience members to see how an actual opera is produced. The panel will discuss The Elixir of Love and such production aspects of staging an opera as set design, lighting, technical considerations and preparation of the cast for the opera. The seminar will also include a portion of an actual rehearsal.

Panelists will include Carolyn Dow, music librarian at the Lillian Harris Polley Music Library in the Lincoln City Libraries; Ariel Bybee, production director for The Elixir of Love; Laurel Shoemaker, scenery and lighting designer for the production; Ron Koinzan, technical director; Art Kuhr, property master; Donna Himmelberger, hair and makeup designer; Jeanne Marlette, costume designer; and Angela Turner, stage manager.
