• Maria Full of Grace focuses on 17-year-old Maria of rural Colombia, who leaves her family to go to Bogota, where she tumbles into work as a drug mule. Like thousands of real-life Colombians, she earns money by flying to New York City with tightly wrapped heroin pellets in her stomach, risking prison or instant death should a pellet break open inside her. The film is based on interviews with airport customs agents and former mules. This film, rated R, won the Audience Drama Award at the Sundance Film Festival.

• She Hate Me, directed by Spike Lee, tells of Jack Armstrong, an out-of-work executive who is offered cash by his ex-girlfriend, who is now a lesbian, to impregnate her. Soon, he is in the baby-making business at $10,000 a try when lesbians wanting to become mothers begin lining up for his services.
