Glass concerto premieres on NPRN

A new work composed by Philip Glass and performed by piano soloist Paul Barnes, Native American flutist R. Carlos Nakai and the Victor Yampolsky-directed Omaha Symphony Orchestra will be broadcast on the Nebraska Public Radio Network series "Nebraska Concerts" on a special night and time. Tune in for the broadcast premiere of Concerto No. 2 (After Lewis and Clark) at 7 p.m. Oct. 18.

The concerto was co-commissioned by the Nebraska Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Commission with the Lied Center for Performing Arts and the UNL Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts. The world-premiere performance was recorded on Sept. 18 at the Lied Center.

Barnes is associate professor and co-chair of piano at UNL. Nakai composes, arranges and performs music for the Native American flute.
