Christiansen, who received a bachelor's degree in 1989 and a juris doctor in 1996, was stationed in Afghanistan in 2003 and early 2004 at Bagram Air Force Base north of Kabul. She acquired several flags there that had flown at the holding facility in Bagram for nine hours and 11 minutes each, to commemorate the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. She donated two of the flags to UNL, one of which will be displayed at the Military and Naval Science building. Christiansen now works at U.S. Strategic Command at Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue. The cadets above are Christopher Russell, left, and Joseph Mucia. Saluting at right is Christina Norton.
