Lied to fill with sounds of Scottish Christmas

Scottish fiddler Bonnie Rideout and other renowned Celtic musicians will bring A Scottish Christmas to the Lied Center for a performance at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 9.

A Scottish Christmas offers a mix of carols, wassail tunes and traditional Highland dances associated with Christmas, Hogmanay (Scottish New Year's Eve) and the New Year. Some of the favorite holiday tunes in the show include "Greensleeves," "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" and "Adeste Fideles."

Rideout is a three-time U.S. Scottish Fiddle Champion who has been a regular guest on National Public Radio's "The Thistle & Shamrock," "Morning Edition" and "Performance Today." She will be joined by Celtic musicians from both North America and Scotland blending the sounds of fiddle, bagpipes, uilleann pipes, border pipes, clarsach (Celtic harp), bodhran (Celtic frame drum), guitar and voice. Traditional dancers will also be featured.

Barb Biffle, host of "Celtic Heartland" on KZUM radio, will give a talk 30 minutes before curtain in the Lied Center's Steinhart Room.

Tickets for this performance are $34/$30/$24; tickets are half-price for UNL students and those 18 and younger.

Call the Lied ticket office at 472-4747 or (800) 432-3231 for tickets or visit www.liedcenter.org.
