New Music Agency featured in free event

The New Music Agency will present a free concert at 6 p.m. Dec. 3 in the Johnny Carson Theater as part of the Lied Center's Free at 6 series. The New Music Agency is a chamber ensemble that performs works by active regional and national composers. The musicians' experiences performing with The Third Chair Chamber Players led them to believe that contemporary music deserved to have a place in the Lincoln music scene on a year-round basis. Their Free at 6 program will include pieces by composers Daniel Dorff, Rusty Banks, Neil Corwell, George Crumb and Tristan Fuentes.

Members of The New Music Agency have performed in contemporary music ensembles in Minneapolis and Birmingham, Ala., and two are active composers. The group includes university professors, Lincoln Public Schools music staff, members of the Omaha and Lincoln symphonies and other groups. Current members are Scott Anderson, Christy Banks, Rusty Banks, Betsy Bobenhouse, Diana Frazier, Joe Holmquist and Karen Sandene.

The remaining Free at 6 events for the 2004/05 season are:

• Jan. 19: John and Jason Shaw (old-time fiddle music, bluegrass, jazz), Johnny Carson Theater.

• Feb. 9: Jim Rice and Final Round (original country music), Lied Center main stage.

• March 29: The Bathtub Dogs (all-male contemporary a cappella), Lied Center main stage.

Free at 6 was created to recognize artistic talent in the community and to open the doors of the Lied Center to a wider audience. Free at 6 programs are 45 minutes long and give local artists a venue to build support for their art while encouraging the participation of new audiences.
