Vagina Monologues to be staged March 4-6

The sixth annual observance of V-Day in Lincoln will feature benefit performances of Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues on March 4, 5 and 6 at the Loft at the Mill, 800 P St. Directed by Judith K. Hart, performances will be staged at 10 p.m. on March 4, 7:30 p.m. on March 5 and 2 p.m. on March 6 with the largest cast assembled in the history of the Lincoln production, made up of women from the Lincoln community. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for students and seniors. Call (402) 467-2278 to reserve tickets. Some tickets will be available at the door.

V-Day is a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. Through V-Day campaigns, local volunteers and college students produce annual benefit performances of Ensler's award-winning play to raise awareness and funds for anti-violence groups within their own communities. In 2004, there were 2,300 V-Day benefit events in 1,100 communities that raised $4 million internationally.

The performances are sponsored by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's University Health Center Sexuality Education eXchange & PERSUNL Program with support from The Angels Theatre Co.; Hamilton College; AtoZ Printing; UNL's Sociology Department, Women's Studies Program, Women's Center and Undergraduate English Organization, and Committee on Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Concerns; Stauffer's Chiropractic; Elliott's Chiropractic; Christine L. Stevens, M.D.; Unitarian Universalist Women's Federation; and Prairie Sky Journal. Local beneficiary organizations are Rape Spouse Abuse Crisis Center, Fresh Start Home, Women in Need Emergency Fund, and the YWCA Women in Trades & Transition Fund.
