Year in Review

This special edition of the Scarlet highlights and summarizes a few of our major accomplishments and successes from the 2004-05 academic year.

We have many achievements to celebrate:

• outstanding student success as evidenced by national awards and recognitions;

• growth in our research enterprise with external funding reaching anotherrecord level;

• outreach and engagement with the state with a continued emphasis on economic development.

This edition of the Scarlet aims to attach people and faces to those statements of fact. People are the university’s greatest asset and it is people who make this a great university. Each story is unique but helps to tell the entire story of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

As you can imagine, there are more stories than we have space to print. The Office of University Communications and IANR News Service reviewed past issues of the Scarlet, news releases and other sources to provide content for this special section. And while every effort has been taken to include as many items as possible, to highlight as many accomplishments and to focus on outstanding events, we regret we could not list every worthwhile and notable item.

My thanks to the staff of the Scarlet and University Communications who put this edition together, and to the others who contributed.

Together, we comprise the Power of Red.

Harvey Perlman

Chancellor
